It's been 23 years since hundreds of ornate pots excavated from the Mississippian Moundville site were stolen from the University of Alabama. The theft was kept quiet while the FBI pursued leads that suggested the pieces had been sold in Europe or Japan. With the heist now considered a cold case, a belated cyber dragnet, including photos of the stolen vessels, has been launched at museums.ua.edu. University of Alabama archaeologist Jim Knight says he has already received a number of significant leads.
