Ironclad Identified?

A remote-sensing survey has identified possible remains of CSS Virginia, the Confederate ironclad that famously fought its counterpart the USS Monitor to a draw in 1862. Two months after its historic battle with Monitor, the ironclad was run aground in the James River near Portsmouth, Virginia. The ship was torched to prevent its capture and salvors later stripped the vessel, but sections of Virginia are thought to survive underwater. Plans are afoot for a more intensive investigation of the site.
