BAC KAN, VIET NAM—A 2,000-year-old bronze drum has been found at a road construction site in northern Viet Nam. Its tympan is partially intact, and decorated with images of a solar star, rays, and stylized peacock feathers. “The drum has a lot in common with those found earlier in other northern provinces of Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, and Ha Giang. The finding proves the strong living power of Dong Son culture in the north of the country,” said Trinh Nang Chung of the Viet Nam Archaeology Institute.
