ST. MARY’S CITY, MARYLAND—The remains of an English ship may have been found in St. Mary’s River. Archaeologist Scott Tucker, working with volunteer divers, found a load of rounded cobble stones in an oval-shaped area more than 50 feet long. The stones resemble those that come from England’s North Devon coastline, and may have been used as ballast. The only wooden fragments recovered may have come from a ship’s bilge pump.
