endurance stuck in the ice-1LONDON, ENGLAND—Researchers studying wooden planks that were deliberately deposited on the ocean floor near Antarctica have discovered that they were untouched by worms and mollusks 14 months after being buried. The discovery suggests that the many historic vessels that sunk in Antarctic waters could be intact, and perhaps still even be in pristine condition. That opens the possibility that archaeologists could find explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton's doomed ship Endurance, which sunk in 1915 after being trapped by icebergs.
