SHOUMEN, BULGARIA—Drought conditions in Bulgaria have brought a 7,000-year-old defensive wall complete with an arrow slit to light. Luxury items, such as marble and jade jewelry, and military equipment suggest that local rulers lived within the fortification. The site was eventually submerged in the Ticha reservoir.
