WILTSHIRE—Hikers climbing the rain-soaked Silbury Hill in Avebury, England, are “leaving some really rather hideous scars,” according to archaeologist Jim Leary of English Heritage. The 131-foot-tall hill dates to 2400 B.C. and is part of the Avebury World Heritage Site, home of the largest prehistoric stone circle in the world. Access to Silbury Hill is prohibited, even when it is dry.
