More than 50 students and colleagues gathered for a three-day tribute to University of Texas epigrapher Linda Schele, whose work has broadened our understanding of the ancient Maya. Last summer, the 56-year-old Mayanist, whose coauthored books include Blood of Kings, Forest of Kings, Maya Cosmos, and the forthcoming Code of Kings, was diagnosed with inoperable cancer and given little more than a year to live. Friends and colleagues are raising funds for a chair in Schele's name at the University of Texas; for information, e-mail Peter Keeler at: p.keeler@mail.utexas.edu.

Angela M.H. Schuster is an associate editor of ARCHAEOLOGY.
