Overview of elephant burial site

Elephant Science

With the information we have been able to gather, it is clear that there were at least two elephants buried in the elite Predynastic cemetery at HK6. It would appear that the animals were buried with due respect and were not dismembered. The only limited remains recovered by Barbara Adams of the first elephant in Tomb 13 (which we now believe to be a post hole) suggest that a great deal of this animal remains to be discovered. It is hoped that renewed excavations of this burial will help fill in the gaps and provide further insights into this fascinating, formative period of Egyptian history.
