There can be no doubt that the discovery of the fifth-sixth-century kiln, its inside deliberately filled with dumped material, is the find of the week. It contained among others a large storage vessel, an amphora, at least two oinophoroi and some vessels, all of them produced locally from the Canakli clays and either completely preserved or restorable. The whole assemblage gives us an excellent picture of the kind of vessels that were in use in a potters' workshop of late antiquity.
