The skeleton of Bernuthsfeld Man was discovered in 1907 during peat cutting in Hogehahn bog in Lower Saxony, Germany. The body was wrapped in several garments, including a tunic with sleeves made from 43 pieces of textile and two long leg wrappings. Furthermore a sheath (visible to the left of the man's hair) which may have held an approximately 6-inch-long knife was discovered on the body. A large branch was placed over the body. Bernuthsfeld Man died between A.D. 660 and 870. A restoration of the remains was recently carried out in Schleswig. (Ostfriesisches Landesmusuem of Germany, Emden)
