Email this article Bernuthsfeld Man "Bodies of the Bogs" December 10, 1997    The skeleton of Bernuthsfeld Man was discovered in 1907 during peat cutting in Hogehahn bog in Lower Saxony, Germany. The body was wrapped in several garments, including a tunic with sleeves made from 43 pieces of textile and two long leg wrappings. Furthermore a sheath (visible to the left of the man's hair) which may have held an approximately 6-inch-long knife was discovered on the body. A large branch was placed over the body. Bernuthsfeld Man died between A.D. 660 and 870. A restoration of the remains was recently carried out in Schleswig.
