Balos: Lomo de los Letreros "Beyond the Beaches of Gran Canaria"
October 29, 1999

[image]In the Barranco de Balos is Lomo de los Letreros, the Ridge of Inscriptions. Unfortunately, after much searching, the only inscriptions I found were graffiti.

The elusive engravings, supposedly on the northeast side of the 984-foot basalt ridge, are of the same type of geometric shapes found elsewhere on the island (see Gáldar). The inscriptions are reported to be considerably weathered, which may explain my difficulty in finding evidence of them. When I visited, the site had not yet been studied by experts.
