 | | In the corner of the western foundation wall, we came across a hollow pocket. We excavated beneath the foundation to determine whether it might have been a post hole. No darker soil or wood fragments were found to indicate such a thing, however, and no difference in soil color was present to suggest that the hole was backfilled when a pole was removed. Most likely, it occurred naturally as the dirt was sucked away by the heavy rise and fall of the area's water table. (Courtesy Brooklyn College) |
