Mopti, which lies on a series of islands connected by causeways at the juncture of the Niger and Bani rivers, is the place where all of Mali's cultures come together--the Bamana, Songhai, Fulani, Tuareg, Moor, Bozo, Bobo, and Dogon. Mopti is bustling with activity especially in the area of the harbor. Mopti is the jump off point for those traveling by boat to Timbuktu.
Visitors should take a least a day trip by boat to the island Bozo and Fulani villages in the rivers.
