Dover Patrol Monument

4th Avenue and 101st St. John Paul Jones Park
Subway: R to 195th St-Bay Ridge

Designed by Sir Aston Webb this WWI monument was dedicated in 1931 to the American navy. The Dover Patrol was a unit of the British Royal Navy that served during World War I, and the obelisk reads, "this monument to the Dover Patrol erected as a tribute to the comradeship and service of the American Naval Forces in Europe during the World War." There are identical Dover Patrol obelisks in Dover, England and Cap Blanc Nez, France.

The obelisks at Green-wood are numerous and diverse, spread out across the 478 acres of paths, trees, and green spaces.

Brooklyn Theater Fire Obelisk

This obelisk was erected in 1876 over the mass grave of 103 individuals who died in the Brooklyn Theater Fire on December 5, 1876. The 30-foot obelisk was erected by The City of Brooklyn to honor the victims of the fire. It's located near the entrance of the cemetery at the corner of Battle Avenue, Bay View Avenue and Bay Side Avenue.
