Acquisitive Curator Update November 20, 2001

David Wooley, a former curator at the Wisconsin Historical Society Museum, was sentenced to 15 years in prison and 30 years of probation for stealing Native American artifacts from the museum's own collection. Wooley, who is one-quarter Otoe-Missouri, said that because his job involved responsibility for thousands of excavated Native American remains, evil spirits sickened his two children, leaving him no choice but to sell off artifacts.
